The legendary Navrun format returns to Central Victoria with a brand-new challenge — the Dunolly Navrun. Set around the goldrush country’s bush tracks, this two-day event combines classic navigation challenges with a modern 4WD adventure twist. Whether you’re a seasoned Navrun veteran or new to off-road navigation, this is your chance to experience the fun, teamwork, and mystery that made Navrun famous.
What to Expect
Across the weekend, you’ll tackle a series of challenges designed to test your navigation, problem-solving, and observation skills — not your vehicle’s limits. You’ll be working from waypoints, stick maps, photo replicators, and puzzle-based clues that lead you through some of Central Victoria’s most scenic bushland.Each task earns you points, but there’s no single “right way” to get through — smart navigation and sharp thinking will get you further than horsepower.
Base Camp
Our central campsite keeps everything easy and social. Hot meals, morning breakfasts, and Saturday night catering are all provided, so you can focus on the adventure and relax around the fire with fellow teams when the day’s done.Campsites are accessible, family-friendly, and suitable for everything from roof-top tents to camper trailers.
Vehicles & Requirements
The Dunolly Navrun is designed to be accessible to all 4WDs.If your vehicle is in good condition, has basic recovery gear, and you know how to read a map or GPS, you’re ready. You don’t need lockers, winches, or mud tyres — just a sense of direction and a sense of humour.

Embark on a historical treasure hunt based on the notorious bushrangers Gunslinger Gary and Gravedigger Dan. With easier navigation compared to traditional off-road challenges, the Goldfields 4WD Adventure still requires some navigation knowledge or a quick learning ability.
Think of it as a car trial with clues and puzzles to solve as you make your way around the course, searching for hidden treasures. And if you have kids, they'll be excited to have their own set of notes to follow, keeping them engaged and looking out for things on the same course as you drive around.
The event spans three whole days of adventure over the long weekend, giving you ample time to explore and enjoy. Don't worry, the driving difficulty is easy to moderate, meaning that a standard four-wheel drive with low range and all-terrain tires will allow you to safely traverse the course. While self-recovery is not expected, we always recommend bringing at least a basic recovery kit for peace of mind.
For your convenience, the Goldfields 4WD Adventure offers access to a private bush campground equipped with toilet facilities, town water, and plenty of space to accommodate caravans and campers, making it the perfect base for the duration of the event.

This winch challenge 4wd event will run over seven days where drivers and navigators will need to be self-sufficient to the finish line. Covering several properties from Sandy Creeks, Sandy Dunes, rocky hills and Old Station Tracks, competitors will need to live from their cars and only have access to water and fuel, everything else they must carry, including spare parts. Just like the TV show but in your 4WD, you look for a clue at a GPS location. There will then be instructions to find your next destination. Over the 3 days you will experience Wimmera’s Desert Region of Victoria. This will be right up there with the greatest 4wd adventures you can have with family and friends.
As with all our events, it is not timed, so it will not affect your vehicle insurance. Road tyres are very suitable for this event as well.
You will be navigating, looking for clues, and following instructions along the way. There will be all sorts of twists and surprises, but unlike the TV show, nobody gets eliminated.
So long as it is reliable, virtually any 4WD & AWD with a good clearance will be up to this one. There should be no need for scratching or damage. This is a good fun, family event. There are no classes or limitations and all we need is for drivers to be licensed and vehicles to be registered.
We will be having one base bush camp so you don’t have to pack up each morning and take everything with you. No night activities other than social camp fires. We will have games & prizes for the kids. Even the kids get their own courses through the day.
This is a self-catering event, except for the presentation night dinner. We are based only 5 minutes from a main township, (Goroke) so all supplies and fuel are readily available.
What do I need? Firstly, it is one 4wd/Awd (with some clearance) vehicle per team, although there is nothing wrong in pairing up. All vehicles must have a GPS and basic recovery equipment, and of course, a great sense of adventure. Winches and diff locks will not be required. The event is based on easy, enjoyable four wheel driving. Greater detail will be available upon entry.
What is supplied? Other than an excellent time, all maps, notes, etc. are provided for each vehicle.
Presentation will be at the conclusion of the event with roast beef, pork, bbq sausages and an array of salads provided in your entry fee.
Where do we start? There will be one base bush camp; located at Goroke (near Horsham). Bring your caravans, camper trailers, etc. The camp site is 2WD all weather access.

What is Cliffhanger?
Cliffhanger is the big daddy of Australian 4x4 racing, featuring tough winch courses, long navigation stages and fast creek runs. We pride ourselves on being a family friendly event, with free entry for children, and a base camp accessible by most vehicles, including large trucks.
Steve and Rudi, along with their team of helpers, have been in the game for more than 20 years, and ensure you that this is an event you do not want to miss.
