Built for demanding off-road use, the Superior Engineering Competition Spec Tie Rod is a heavy-duty steering upgrade designed specifically for the Nissan Patrol GQ.

The tie rod is CNC machined from a solid 35mm diameter bar of high-tensile 4340M steel. This substantial solid-bar construction provides the strength required for vehicles regularly driven through rocks, ruts and other terrain where factory or lighter aftermarket steering components may be vulnerable to bending.

Its 7-step SA5 zinc anti-corrosion finish helps protect the bar and threaded areas from rust, making it well suited to vehicles exposed to mud, water, beach driving and harsh Australian conditions.

The Competition Spec assembly uses extra-heavy-duty female-style, greasable tie rod ends with 30mm x 1.5 threads. A split-clamp adjustment system securely locks the rod ends into position while allowing the tie rod length to be correctly adjusted.

Competition Spec Construction

Every part of this tie rod has been selected to provide dependable strength and serviceability. From the solid 4340M bar and corrosion-resistant finish through to the large female-style rod ends and positive split-clamp adjustment system, it is built as a complete steering upgrade rather than simply a larger replacement bar.

Steering Component Maintenance: Superior Engineering and other branded steering components are aftermarket replacement parts that are often upgraded for increased strength and durability compared with factory components. While these products meet or exceed OEM specifications, regular maintenance is essential to ensure safety and longevity.

It is the responsibility of the vehicle owner to inspect all steering components, including rod ends, internal and external threads, and hollow bars at every service or at least every six months. Any signs of looseness, damage or rust must be addressed immediately, as rust formation—particularly in harsh environments such as beach driving or off-roading—can compromise performance and may void the product warranty.

Any wear or play in ball joints, tie rod ends or threads requires immediate replacement to maintain safe vehicle operation. Failure to perform regular inspections and necessary replacements may result in component failure, which could lead to serious injury or vehicle damage.

The Superior Engineering steering Components will meet or exceeds the factory specifications of OME products. Although Superior Engineering and other brands may be stronger or exceed OME specifications maintenance must still be performed on the components to ensure a safe and reasonable life out of the products. For all steering products it is recommended to carefully check over the ends, internal and external threads and on hollow bars inside the rod every service you have on the vehicle or 6 monthly minimum to ensure nothing is loose or damaged or rusted. It is recommended to ensure no rust has formed on any steering parts as this may shorten the life or warranty of the product. Due to the harsh environments such as beach work or general 4wding rust may quickly form on steel steering components, it is recommended to replace the items if rust is present. If there is any wear or play in the ball joints, Tie rod ends or threads they must also be replaced for safety.
