This precision laser cut steel modification plate allows you to turn your tailgate into a locked compartment within your car. You can use the space to store recovery gear, spare parts or anything else that will fit, and you want to keep secure.
This is a DIY kit and requires you to trim away some of the metal in the tailgate. To assist with this, we provide step by step easy to follow instructions and a handy template to show where the cuts are required. This can be performed with tin snips, a jigsaw or an angle grinder. If you don't feel comfortable installing then we recommend using a professional installer.
The kit will be painted with a black powder coat and ship with all mounting hardware required such as nuts, bolts, hinge and associated rivets as well as the heavy-duty low profile locks. Dense foam sound deadening material is included as well to protect the interior of your tailgate. You have the option of also ordering a marine carpet finish. Marine carpet is highly recommended unless you plan to cover the tailgate yourself as the powder coating will get damaged over time without it.

Remember when packing the gate, the more stuff you put into it the heavier it will be to lift, the 100 series tailgate has a large cavity to load up with a lot of things and can get heavy quickly. We suggest storing items such as snatch straps, winch extensions, tree protectors, gloves etc. If you really do wish to store heavier items, keep them towards the bottom to prevent them from jamming the opening mechanisms.
Installation Notes for the 100 Series Land Cruiser Tailgate Mod
This kit requires trimming some metal from the original tailgate to create a precise fit. To assist with the installation, we provide a step-by-step guide and template for perfect cuts. Check your lock barrel type one will be held in with a bracket that will be removed, one will be help in with a clip and it can stay or be removed:
- Remove & Replace: Remove the barrel and use the supplied grommet to close the hole.
- Spare Key Barrel: Alternatively, source a spare key barrel from a wreckers yard.
